Assisted by the Embassy, a webinar on beekeeping between Iyanola Apiculture Collective (IAC), Global Environment Foundation Small Grant Programme (GEF SGP), and Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture was held on 27 July 2021.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Peter Chen stressed the vital role of bees in a healthy environment and economy. He explained that more than 90% of the leading global crops are pollinated by bees. Loss of these perfect pollinators could jeopardize food security and biodiversity. He hoped this webinar will help foster more cooperation in apiculture between Taiwan and Saint Lucia.
Ambassador Chen further reassured that the Embassy will work with the people and the new government of Saint Lucia to ensure that the ever-lasting friendship and mutually-beneficial bonds between the two countries will go from strength to strength.
Mr. Giles Romulus of GEF SGP hoped to build partnership to promote apiculture in this region, whereas Mr. Richard Matthias, President of IAC, finds that both industries have shared similarity in the challenges and the intended goals. President Matthias sees great potential for cooperation and synergy in apiculture between Saint Lucia and Taiwan.
