The Threat Facing Taiwan
Following official visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’ visit to Taiwan, China has conducted live-fire military exercises not just around Taiwan, but also the neighboring waters, which has posed a challenge to the international order and disrupted peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the Pacific region. The ROC(Taiwan) solemnly calls on china to act with reason and exercise restraint.
As a peace loving country like the Marshall Islands, Taiwan is willing to join the global community and welcomes all international friends who support freedom and democracy to Taiwan. The speaker’s visit to Taiwan serves to boost the strength of support to democratic Taiwan. No country should interfere in the friendly interactions between Taiwan and other countries.
Taiwan is a reliable partner to the democratic world. We are dedicated to strengthen cooperation with like-minded countries to promote freedom and democracy in the Indo-Pacific region. China’s unilateral escalation has not only violated international laws and sovereignty of Taiwan, but also posed threat to the region.
For the democratic Taiwan on the frontline, facing the continuous threat from China only teaches us one lesson – Freedom and Democracy have never been free. We appreciate recent support from the G7 countries our friends and allies, including the Marshall Islands. Meanwhile, we urge peace loving people and countries around the world to condemn China’s military attempts to undermine regional peace and stability. This is the time to support and voice for democratic Taiwan.
In addition to Ambassador Hsiao’s article, the Taiwanese Community in the Marshall Islands also voluntarily purchased the full page of the advertisement section on the Journal, with the title said “Democratic Taiwan Forever”, the Taiwanese Community called on people to support democratic Taiwan and urged China to act with reason and exercise restraint.
Taiwan will fulfill its international responsibilities, calmly respond to China’s unreasonable military threats, firmly defend Taiwan’s sovereignty and national security, and protect the front line of democracy and freedom. (E)
