Ambassador Steve C.C. Hsia and Mrs. Hsia attended the coronation ceremony and birthday banquet for the Iroijlaplap (The Paramount Chief) Christopher Loeak on November 11, 2023. On behalf of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government, Ambassador Hsia extended congratulations to Iroijlaplap Loeak on his historic coronation.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Iroijlaplap Loeak expressed special appreciation to Taiwan and the members of the diplomatic corps, highlighting the deep friendship between Taiwan and the Marshall Islands.
The coronation ceremony, known as "Kailoojoj" in Marshallese, is an exclusive ritual for the highest traditional leaders and is one of the grandest cultural events in the Marshall Islands. Approximately 700 people, including government ministers, senators, traditional leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, business representatives, and the public, attended the ceremony, making it a splendid and memorable occasion.
The Embassy has maintained a longstanding and friendly relationship with traditional leaders in the Marshall Islands and will continue to support the preservation and development of culture of the Marshall Islands.
