H.E. Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen of the Republic of China (Taiwan) presented a check of $7,500USD to Hon. Senator Dennis Momotaro of Mejot Island on 16 June 2014 to support the continuation of the agricultural cooperation among the Ministry of Resources and Development (R&D) of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy, the ROC (Taiwan) Technical Mission in the RMI (TTM, also known as the Laura Farm), the Mejit Local Government and their representative in the RMI Nitijela.
The funding source was the “RMI-ROC Outer Island Agricultural Development Project”, established between the 2 countries in 2012 and was a part of the ROC (Taiwan) Project Support to the RMI under the ROC (Taiwan) Annual Grant assistance scheme.
The TTM and their R&D counterparts paid their assessment to Mejit in February 2014 and found that although Mejit was heavily affected by the drought condition, crops such as radish, corns, potatoes, taros, pumpkins and papayas were growing well, as a result of the good care by the local instructors and residents. According to the project proposal payment scheme, a follow-up funding of 7,500USD was therefore provided to Mejit to continue the project.
The Embassy recognizes achievements shown from the progress that the Mejit Island people made on their agricultural development project and would also like to recognize the joint efforts made by TTM of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) and their counterparts in the Ministry of R&D and the local leadership of the Mejit and that of Hon. Senator Momotaro.
