His Excellency Herbert W.M. Hsu, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), presented a donation of US$100,000 to the Honorable Kalani Kaneko, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on June 26, 2026. The contribution is dedicated to supporting post-fire relief and humanitarian recovery efforts on Ebeye Island.
The funding follows a devastating fire that broke out on Ebeye on June 6, which destroyed multiple homes and two major local businesses, leaving more than 100 residents displaced. In response to the crisis, Her Excellency President Hilda C. Heine issued an Executive Order on June 8 declaring a State of Emergency for Ebeye. The government and people of Taiwan extend their deepest sympathies to the families, businesses, and communities affected by this tragedy.
During the handover ceremony, Ambassador Hsu conveyed solidarity on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan. He reaffirmed Taiwan’s unwavering commitment to standing alongside the Marshall Islands as a dedicated, long-term partner during times of crisis.
Minister Kaneko expressed his profound appreciation for Taiwan’s prompt and generous assistance, noting that the timely aid will significantly bolster the ongoing recovery operations on Ebeye. As steadfast allies, Taiwan and the Marshall Islands remain committed to working in close cooperation to navigate regional challenges, build community resilience, and further strengthen their enduring diplomatic partnership.
