H.E. Ambassador Daniel D.W. Tang of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Hon. Foreign Minister John M. Silk of the Republic of the Marshall Islands joined for the handover ceremony of charity items donated by SimplyHelp Foundation on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Majuro Stevedore and Terminal Company Compound. Hon. Internal Minister Amenta Matthew, Director Timmy Langrine of the National Disaster Management Office and Rev. Balukre Johnny were invited to witness the handover ceremony.
At the handover ceremony, Ambassador Tang elaborated that SimplyHelp Foundation was a non-profit charity organization based in Los Angeles, California, USA. Since the establishment in 2000, the founder and present president Tina Bao, a Taiwanese American, has provided disaster relief and charitable donations in 22 countries around the world. It was the second year that SimplyHelp Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), donated one cargo container of charity items which valued $ 77,246 to the people of the Marshall Islands.
Ambassador Tang expressed his appreciation to Minister Silk and his capable colleagues for their efforts and cooperation with the Embassy to work on the donation and the handover ceremony. Ambassador Tang also thanked the National Disaster Management Office for its assistance in distributing the charity items to outer islands. Ambassador Tang reiterated the ROC (Taiwan) government’s commitment to the partnership between the ROC and the RMI. The Embassy would make every effort to continuously cooperate with the RMI government in contributing to the welfare of the people of the Marshall Islands and the sustainable development of the RMI.
Minister Silk, on behalf of the government and people of the Marshall Islands and H.E. President Hilda C. Heine, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROC (Taiwan) and SimplyHelp Foundation for the generous donation. Their efforts convey empathy and friendship of the Taiwanese people. The people of the Marshall Islands once again benefits from the charity donation which was a meaningful gesture especially to the Marshallese children of outer islands.
