Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Myanmar invites everyone to join an international female leaders’ climate justice online forum on March 15, 2022
The Climate Justice Leaders Forum to be hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the nongovernmental organization (NGO) the Foundation of Women’s Rights Promotion and Development (FWRPD) will take place online at 8:30 p.m. Taipei time (7:00 p.m. Yangon time) on March 15, 2022. The event will be broadcast live simultaneously on MOFA’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/mofa.gov.tw/ and YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/taiwan2theworld/. All are welcome to tune in.
This year’s Forum corresponds with the annual meeting in March of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The focus of the 66th session of CSW (CSW66) this year is achieving gender equality within the context of climate change.
High-profile speakers from the Americas, Europe, and Asia will be taking part in the webinar. The agenda is divided into a forum with political leaders, keynote speeches, and a dialogue with NGO leaders.
In the "Keynote Speeches" session, Michelle Wu, the first female mayor of Boston in the United States is invited to deliver a pre-recorded speech. She will share her Green New Deal from the perspective of city-to-city cooperation. Mayor Wu is the second generation of Taiwanese immigrants, and her election victorying 2021 has attracted national attention in the U.S. The content of her speech on the cooperation between cities of Taiwan and of the United States is certainly worthy of international attention.
At the political leaders’ forum, Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua will outline Taiwan’s policies and measures to enhance women’s participation in promoting clean energy. Former leader of the Green Party of England and Wales Baroness Natalie Bennett and Marshall Islands Minister of Education, Sports and Training Kitlang Kabua will also share their experiences. The NGO leaders’ dialogue will involve Founder and Executive Director of the US Human Impacts Institute Tara DePorte, Executive Director of the Palau Ebiil Society Ann K. Singeo, and Taiwanese climate activist Wang Hsuan-ju. The three women will share their journeys in fighting global warming.
The Forum is part of the Taiwan Gender Equality Week (TGEW); other programs include a Women’s Power Night reception on International Women’s Day with President Tsai Ing-wen as a guest speaker and assisting Taiwanese NGOs to hold parallel meetings at the NGO CSW Forum.
