The Ministry of Education (MOE) of Taiwan inaugurated the Distinguished Taiwan Alumni Awards in 2018 to honor the outstanding achievements of individuals who have studied in Taiwan, as a foreign student. The award aims to enhance Taiwan’s global visibility, foster lasting friendship and close connections between former foreign students and Taiwan.
The biennially-presented award will be given to between 5 to 10 outstanding awardees each time. The awardees will be publicly recognized in Taiwan and invited to be the keynote speaker to share their experiences at one or more occasions. The ceremony for the 5th Distinguished Taiwan Alumni Award is due to be held in November 2026.
Any foreigner who has studied in Taiwan and completed a degree or a training program approved by the Ministry of Education is eligible to be nominated. The winners are selected for their outstanding achievements and considerable contributions in the fields of academic research, industry & commerce, politics, humanities & communications and others which deserves to be recognized to their country and society.
Eligible outstanding alumni may be nominated for a Distinguished Taiwan Alumni Award by government agency or a company in which the person is working, or by the program director or a professor at the university or tertiary college where the person undertook their degree or training program, or by the director of the language center in Taiwan where the person undertook a language program or by a language teacher there.
The application shall be submitted to the Office for the Career Counseling and Retention Program for International Students in Taiwan before January 31, 2026.
