Ambassador Yu-Ping Lien visited Penang on February 9 and received Taiwanese legislators Meei-Ling Loh, Chia-Pin Chung, Chun-Yu Chen, Hui-Yuan Lai, and Yueh-Chin Lin. She also hosted a dinner banquet, inviting Linda Huang, President of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia Penang State, Dato’ Hsu Cheng Te, Dato’ Lee Hui Ta, other Taiwanese business leaders and local community leaders to engage in lively exchanges with the five legislators. The participants discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Taiwan and Malaysia and to further advance the implementation of Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy.
Ambassador Yu-Ping Lien emphasized that the semiconductor industries of Taiwan and Malaysia are highly complementary, and as a global leader in advanced semiconductor and the world’s leading producer of AI servers, Taiwan is the indispensable partner to support Malaysia’s AI ambitions. She noted that as long as Taiwan and Malaysia can continue to deepen institutionalized cooperation based on the principles of “equality, respect and reciprocity,” and the Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) could be renewed to provide comprehensive protection for Taiwanese investors, the two countries will be able to create greater benefits for their peoples through expanding collaboration in the future. Ambassador Lien also expressed her appreciation to the participating legislators and Taiwanese business leaders for their enthusiastic support and assistance in advancing Taiwan–Malaysia relations, thereby concretely realizing public–private partnership and implementing Taiwan’s “Integrated Diplomacy” vision.
During her visit to Penang, Ambassador Yu-Ping Lien also attended the opening ceremony of Chipbond Technology Corporation’s Penang plant. She also met and exchanged views with senior members of overseas compatriot associations, including Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia Penang State, Persatuan Siswazah-Siswazah Taiwan, Pulau Pinang, and Global Federation of Chinese Business Women and so on.
