The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC), will present Shimmering Production (微光製造)’s “Islands (人之島)” from May 1 to 3, launching the company’s two-week Southeast Asia tour.
“Islands” is collaborative performance by Wang Yeu-kwn (王宇光), artist director of Shimmering Production, and Indonesian dancer Danang Pamungkas. Following its Kuala Lumpur debut, the work will be staged at Salihara Arts Center in Jakarta, Indonesia, on May 9 and 10.
Wang’s “Islands,” the second episode of “A Trilogy — Quest of Relationships”, began in 2019 as part of the Cloud Gate Wanderers Project. On a quest to unearth his own story and identity, Wang set sail for Indonesia where he reconnected with dancer Danang Pamungkas. From lone wanderers to kindred companions, they explored the weight of bodies anchored to land and air, where identity, like the shifting shores, ebbs and flows with the tides.
The Cultural Division highlighted its long-term partnership with KLPAC in introducing outstanding Taiwanese performing arts since 2023, and aspires to foster greater exchange between Taiwanese artists and the Southeast Asian arts and cultural community.
