To actively expand into the Malaysia markets, the Pingtung County Government recently held “Pingtung Tourism Promotion Events” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, drawing more than 70 travel agencies, tourism industry representatives, medias and KOLs. At the events, the county also signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with leading local travel operators and tourism organizations to jointly promote travel to Pingtung.
Ambassador Lien,Yu-Ping attended the launch event, stated that Taiwan and Malaysia share close ties and maintain strong exchanges. In terms of trade and economic cooperation, bilateral trade between Taiwan and Malaysia has grown by more than 30% annually for three consecutive years, and this year continues to show robust growth.
From January to May, bilateral trade between Taiwan and Malaysia increased by 34.2% compared with the same period last year. In addition, Malaysia's exports to Taiwan surged by 81.8% in May, setting a new all-time monthly record.
This growth has been driven primarily by the global division of labor within the AI industry supply chain, as well as strong demand for applications such as high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud services. Taiwan and Malaysia have highly complementary industries, creating mutually beneficial opportunities and significant potential for deeper cooperation.
In addition to showcasing Pingtung’s natural scenery, cultural experiences and signature cuisine, the promotional events also explored travel trends and product partnership opportunities in the Malaysia markets. To attract more international visitors to Pingtung, the county is simultaneously promoting its “Incentive Program for Inbound International Group Tours,” under which international group tours of 10 or more travelers, arranged and hosted by a licensed Taiwanese inbound travel agency and meeting the relevant requirements, are eligible for accommodation and transportation subsidies applied for by the hosting agency offering travel operators greater incentive and flexibility in developing Pingtung travel products. Pingtung looks forward to welcoming more Malaysian visitors and achieving a record high in two-way tourism exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia in 2026.
