A Wonderful Evening Filled with the Charm of Taiwan

Taiwan’s indigenous performing arts group, the Formosa Indigenous Song and Dance Troupe, gave its Kuala Lumpur premiere of “When Spirits Meet”(歲時之聚)at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) on 14 August.
TECO Malaysia invited more than 80 distinguished guests to attend — including Malaysian dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps in Malaysia, media, academics, and friends -hosted a pre-performance reception so that guests could mingle before the singing and dancing began, and share together in this cultural feast from the mountains and seas of Taiwan!
In Ambassador Lien Yu-Ping’s remarks, Ambassador said that the troupe has devoted itself for many years to preserving the songs and ceremonial rites of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples, and to passing this precious cultural heritage on to the next generation. She also noted that although Taiwan and Malaysia are separated by the sea, both have been profoundly shaped by Austronesian culture; this bond — one that crosses the ocean and is rooted in bloodline and memory — is precisely what made the evening so moving!
