“Taiwan Digital Day 2026” was held in Kuala Lumpur on September 23, showcasing AI and digital technology applications. Organized by the Ministry of Digital Affairs and implemented by the Institute for Information Industry (III), the event brought together 10 Taiwanese companies and 70 Malaysian businesses to explore opportunities for technological cooperation and market development.
In her remarks, Representative Dr. Lien Yu-Ping noted that Taiwan–Malaysia economic ties continue to deepen. Bilateral trade exceeded US$57 billion in 2025, a record high, while Taiwanese companies have invested approximately US$17 billion in Malaysia and created more than 400,000 jobs, bringing capital, technology, talent, and long-term commitment.
Representative Lien highlighted that the Taiwan–Malaysia Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) has been in place for more than 30 years. Given the changing global economic and investment landscape, both sides should urgently initiate consultations to update the BIA and establish a more comprehensive and stable framework for investment protection, laying a stronger foundation for future cooperation.
She further noted that Taiwan’s strong technology ecosystem and Malaysia’s role as a gateway to ASEAN create significant complementarity for deeper cooperation in AI, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, and digital transformation.
