The Taiwan-Malaysia Industrial Collaboration Summit marks its 10th anniversary! In the opening remarks, Representative Dr. Lien Yu Ping expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) for their dedicated efforts over the past decade in deepening industrial ties and fostering tangible business partnerships.
Representative Dr. Lien emphasized: Modernizing the Taiwan-Malaysia Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) is an urgent priority!
The current BIA was signed over three decades ago. Thirty years ago, Taiwanese investments primarily focused on physical plants and machinery; today, however, Taiwanese enterprises bring core technologies, intellectual property, and high-level talent to Malaysia.
As both nations ride the wave of AI and semiconductors, Taiwan stands as Malaysia’s most solid partner in accelerating its AI transformation. Representative Dr. Lien urged the Malaysian government to initiate consulations with Taiwan as soon as possible to modernize the BIA. Providing up-to-date institutional and legal protections will give high-value enterprises the confidence they need to commit to long-term growth in Malaysia!
Taiwanese Businesses Deliver Deep-Rooted, High-Quality Investment
Taiwanese investments have created over 408,000 jobs in Malaysia—ranking 3rd among all foreign investors! This clearly demonstrates that Taiwan brings not short-term hot money, but high-quality partnerships rooted in local development. We look forward to walking hand in hand into another golden decade of Taiwan-Malaysia industrial collaboration!
