Celebrating its 80th anniversary, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) made a triumphant Malaysian debut on November 12 at Kuala Lumpur's Petronas Philharmonic Hall. The concert marked a special homecoming for Penang-born Chopin Competition laureate Vincent Ong, whose brilliant performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 captivated the packed house.
The evening’s repertoire featured Chang Ching-shan’s new work Echoes of Eight Decades, which weaves together beloved Taiwanese folk tunes, alongside Tyzen Hsiao’s The Angel from Formosa and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. The orchestra closed the night with an emotional encore of the Taiwanese classic Bāng Chhun Hong.
Ahead of the show, Representative Lien Yu-ping and NTSO Director OuYang Hui-Kang welcomed distinguished political, business, and arts leaders. Representative Lien praised the orchestra for deepening ties through music, calling the evening a shining example of cultural diplomacy.
The NTSO next heads to Singapore for a performance at the Esplanade Concert Hall on November 14.
