To highlight the significance of boosting bilateral relations between Taiwan and Nigeria, the Taiwan Mission in Nigeria moved from its current location of Lagos to the capital of Nigeria Abuja on October 7, 2025 to hold the 114th National Day reception. More than 230 distinguish guests attended, including Nigerian dignitaries, diplomats from various countries, among others. In addition, the Taiwanese community in Nigeria mobilized two electronic dance performers Techno Nezha God General (Santaizi) to make their first appearance in Abuja, and their performance at the reception were very well received and appreciated by all the guests. The overall reception went well with atmosphere of both solemn and pleasant.
Taiwan Representative Andy Yih-Ping Liu has emphasized in his celebrating remarks that:
- Taiwan President Lai Ching-te's governing principles of "democracy, peace, and prosperity" are the cornerstone of stability in Asia and the world. Furthermore, Taiwan's overall achievements in democracy and freedom, strong economic and trade strength, and advanced semiconductor technology have become a model for global development and resisting coercive powers.
- His Excellency President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has publicly declared his intention to "transform Southeast of Nigeria into the Taiwan of Africa," and Madam First Lady, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu, officially received Representative Liu at the State House (Presidential Office) on August 1st. Therefore, our government responds positively to President Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda" and is willing to work closely with Nigeria to implement it.
- Both Nigeria and Taiwan are democratic and free regimes, sovereign and independent, and our economic, trade, and energy development are mutually beneficial. Therefore, our Taiwan technological and economic development model can serve as a fine reference for Nigeria’s development. We sincerely hope that both Nigeria and Africa will value our strength in economic and technological development with successful aid cooperation, would jointly explore substantive cooperation and exchanges for mutual benefit and prosperity.
