On November 1, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that the quarantine measure of a 14-day quarantine followed by a 7-day self-health management will remain in place from December 14, 2021 to February 14, 2022, as the pandemic continues to subside in Taiwan and the COVID-19 vaccination rates in some countries have increased. The decision was made given that the Lunar New Year holiday approaches and there is a strong need for overseas Taiwanese residents to travel back home. Adjustments to related measures are listed below.
A. People arriving in Taiwan from key high-risk countries shall observe the 14-day quarantine at group quarantine facilities.
B. Other travelers arriving Taiwan from countries other than key high-risk countries will be required to stay in a quarantine hotel or a group quarantine facility at their own expense for the first 10 days of quarantine after arrival; for the remaining four days of quarantine, they can return home to complete the quarantine period.
a. During the 14-day quarantine, the rule of one person per room should be followed. Family members/household members who arrive on the same day may choose to quarantine in the same room. However, due to the space of single rooms, it is not advised that more than two people share a room.
b. During the last four days of quarantine at home, the principle of one person per residence should be observed. However, if family members living with an individual subjected to quarantine have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and got the second shot 14 days ago, the individual can live with his or her vaccinated family members provided that the rule of one person per room should be followed. Those who quarantine with their family members at the same room in a quarantine hotel may also live in the same residence with their family members after returning home.
C. Related testing measures for arrivals from countries other than key high-risk countries:
a. Arrivals should undergo PCR testing upon arrival according to the current testing measure.
b. Arrivals should undergo one additional PCR test between on the 9th or 10th day of quarantine; the local government will comply with the current PCR testing procedure for quarantined people at the end of the quarantine period to arrange for arrivals in quarantine to take PCR test at a hospital or a location designated by the local government.
c. If their test result comes back negative, arrivals, on the 11th day (arrival day +11 days), may take a quarantine taxi to return home or go to residence of friends or family to undergo quarantine during the remaining days (the 11th-14th day).
d. Arrivals will be required to take a PCR test one day prior to the end of their quarantine period, instead of a rapid test using a home test kit between the 6th and 7th day of the self-health management period.
