Director General Lincoln Ting and Ms. Amy Lin were invited to attend Fo Guang Shan of New Zealand’s Buddha’s Day Celebration held on 15th April 2012. He had also been invited to give a speech for the special occasion.
Director General Ting talked about the establishment of Fo Guang Shan and its accomplishments worldwide including its efforts in enhancing cultural exchange between the people of the Republic of China and New Zealand.
“The General Temple of Fo Guang Shan is located in Taiwan, the Republic of China, and was founded by Master venerable Shing Yun(星雲) in 1967. So far, Fo Guang Shan has established over 200 branch temples through out the world. They have broken through the old traditions of Buddhist ‘Monasteries by transcending the boundaries between nations, races and genders, and blending culture, education, charity work, and dharma(達摩) propagation as one; These activities have helped realize Humanistic Buddhism as well as leaving behind the best testimony in Buddhist history.” He then said: “As head of the diplomatic mission in Auckland City from Taiwan, I am proud of these accomplishments that Fo Guang Shan has made. I also would like to take this opportunity to express my great esteem to Abbess Manshin for her outstanding leadership and contributions in making this Buddhist Temple more neighbourly with people here in New Zealand.”
On behalf of the government of the Republic of China, Director General Ting wished for a very successful Celebration, and also wished everyone in the audience good health and happiness.
