The Taiwanese In New Zealand Association (TINZA) held a 228 Memorial Concert on the afternoon of March 9 at the East Auckland Presbyterian Church. Director General Kendra Chen, accompanied by Assistant Director Shannon Wang, was invited to attend. In her speech, Director General Kendra Chen stated that the 228 Memorial Day allows us to reflect deeply on history, avoid repeating past mistakes, and cherish the hard-earned democracy. She pointed out that Taiwan ranks first in democracy index in Asia, but the achievement of democracy and freedom was not easy. Facing the challenges posed by authoritarian China’s military threats and rhetoric, we have come to realize the significant difference between democracy and authoritarianism, and she called on everyone to continue supporting Taiwan.
The event also featured a special performance by Taiwanese musicians, whose moving songs and melodies soothed the hearts of all attendees. Additionally, Dr. Chi Yu-Wen and Researcher Ho You-Lun conducted lectures that combined emotional and intellectual elements. Over a hundred attendees reflected on history and looked forward to the future.
