The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship encourages international scholars with an interest in Taiwan, cross-Strait relations, the Asia-Pacific region, and Sinology to conduct research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan.
Established in 2010 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the fellowship has supported over 1,600 scholars from 93 countries to conduct research in Taiwan. Scholars specializing in Taiwan studies, cross-Strait relations, China studies, Asia-Pacific studies, and Sinology are warmly invited to apply online.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be foreign scholars affiliated with universities or academic institutions, including:
- Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors
- Postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates, and doctoral students
- Researchers of equivalent rank at academic institutions
- Individuals recommended by Taiwan’s overseas missions whose research relates to Taiwan’s foreign relations or cross-Strait affairs
Fields of research include Taiwan studies, cross-Strait relations, Asia-Pacific studies, regional security, Sinology, global cybersecurity, countering disinformation, science and technology diplomacy, and global supply chain resilience.
Fellowship Benefits:
- Monthly stipend:
- NT$60,000 for Professors, Associate Professors, Research Fellows, and Associate Research Fellows
- NT$50,000 for Assistant Professors, Assistant Research Fellows, Postdoctoral Researchers, PhD candidates, doctoral students, and other approved candidates
- One round-trip economy-class airfare (subsidy subject to MOFA regulations)
- Fellowship duration: minimum of 3 months and up to 1 year
- Accident insurance coverage of NT$1,000,000 during the research period in Taiwan, including additional medical coverage

- Hard copies must be submitted to the nearest Taiwan overseas mission by 1 July, 2026 (based on postmark date)
