Taiwan Alumni Association in Palau(TAAP) held its 9th Annual Convention on Dec 13th, 2018 in Palasia Hotel. More than 50 TAAP members from different government agencies, educational organizations and private sectors attended the event.
Minister of Education Sinton Soalablai and TAAP President Raynold Mechol in their remarks both expressed their gratitude to the Government of Taiwan for providing a variety of capacity-building opportunities to Palau and believed that the engine for the development of Palau is human resource.
Taian Ambassador Wallace Chow said Taiwan has been offering scholarship and workshop opportunities of different topics to the people of Palau. He was glad to see more Palauan officials attending and completing those training courses in Taiwan then to make contributions to Palau. Despite the differences of length of time spent in Taiwan, TAAP members will always feel that Taiwan is a friendly and lovely country to visit.
Ambassador Chow also briefly updated the cooperation projects between Taiwan and Palau, and encouraged the TAAP members to grab this good opportunity to network among themselves. “This is a good time of networking and we hope it might assist all TAAP members in future career” said Ambassador Chow.
Minister Soalablai said, “TAAP members really have benefited from the scholarships and workshops. As both Taiwan and Palau are island nations, there are definitely something we can learn from each other.”
TAAP President Mechol said that there are 58 students currently studying in Taiwan for degrees and 310 TAAP members in Palau.
Four TAAP members who have just finished their training this year were invited to do presentations. They are TAAP President Raynold Mechol from Ministry of Education, Mr. Galileo Saiske from Ministry of Finance, Ms. Geena Gerald from Palau Visitors Authority and Mr. Ngirbechat Arsenio from Koror State Government.
