Taiwan International Baseball Interchange Development Association (TIBIDA) visited Palau from August 24th to 28th, 2019. The purpose of the visit is to sign a contract with Palau Major League (PML) to promote baseball and to have 2 friendship games.
The two-day friendship games attracted more than 600 viewers from Palau and Taiwan communities. The games also caught the attention of local media to cover the story.
The contract was signed to promote and encourage baseball exchanges between two countries. It was signed under the witness of Ambassador Wallace Chow from Taiwan Embassy, Palau National Olympic Committee Chairman, Senator Frank Kyota, PML Commissioner, Senator John Skebong, and Minister of Finance Elbuchel Sadang. Ambassador Chow threw out the ceremonial first pitch and Senator Kyota was the first batter.
Managing director Ssu-Chieh Hang said, TIBIDA is a national adult league baseball association in Taiwan. Since Korea hosted an Asia-Pacific baseball game in 2009, the association started to participate in the game.
He further said, the purpose of signing the contract with associations in Asia-pacific countries is to promote baseball sport. Taiwan will host the game in October; we have invited baseball teams from countries such as Palau, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines to participate. We hope baseball sport will be more popular through these exchanges.
