The Taiwan Fellowship (hereinafter referred to as “the Fellowship”) sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is now open for Filipino applicants to apply. The Fellowship aims to help scholars and experts interested in researches related to Taiwan, Taiwan-Mainland China relations, mainland China, Asia-Pacific region, industrial development, market investment, economy and trade, and international education cooperation, to conduct advanced studies at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan. The Taiwan Fellowship, echoing the APEC Scholarship Initiative, provides 12 APEC Fellowship opportunities per year for scholars and experts from APEC developing economies. The online application will be open from May 1 to June 30, 2018. The said Fellowship recipients will begin their research in Taiwan in January 2019.
MOFA will sponsor the Fellowship recipients with the following financial assistance:
(1)Monthly grants are paid at the beginning of each month.
(a) Professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT60,000 (approximate to Php 100,000).
(b) Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, or doctoral candidates: NT50,000 (approximate to Php 89,000).
(2)One round-trip air-ticket: Economy class for the most direct route to Taiwan.
(3)Duration of fellowship: 3 to 12 months.
(4)Accident insurance coverage(plus a medical insurance for accidental injuries): NT 1 million(approximate to Php 1.6 million)
Applicants are advised to fill out an on-line application form, then attaching with the following documents to TECO before June 30, 2018 for qualification review:
(1)Application form;
(2)Resume(including a publication list);
(3)Research proposal(three pages in principle using a standard research format); and
(4)Two recommendation letters, or one recommendation letter and one approval letter from the head of the applicant’s working institute/agency/organization.
