On 12 March 2016, Deputy Representative James Huang attended the memorial ervice at the United Chinese Library (UCL) to commemorate the 91st death anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the Republic of China. Over 40 persons, including the advisers and commissioners from the Overseas Community Affairs Committee, office bearers of the Alumni of Taiwan Universities and Colleges, and other officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore were at the service. The memorial service commenced with Deputy Representative James Huang presenting a pot of white orchids and followed with the singing of the “Party President Memorial Song” and the UCL’s club songs.
In his address, Mr. Cham Seng Yin, President of the United Chinese Library, said that Dr. Sun’s teachings of “all for the public” and “universal love” have profoundly affected Chinese people from all over the world. He hopes that UCL members will carry forward the spirit of Dr. Sun’s spirit.
Deputy Representative James Huang spoke of the role of UCL in supporting Dr. Sun during the Chinese Revolution against the Manchu rulers as well as the selfless sacrifices of its members. He hoped that the current generation that is enjoying the fruits of political freedom, democracy and economic prosperity will continue to remember the democratic and patriotic spirit initiated by Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his revolutionary compatriots.
