The Taipei Representative Office in Singapore was delighted to be invited to participate in the One Community Fiesta, which was jointly organised by the West Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and Pioneer Constituency Integration Naturalisation Champions, at the Ayer Rajah Community Center. Held on 5 November 2016, the event attracted over 1000 persons.
With its colorful display of hi-tech fabrics made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and waste coffee grounds, as well as the usual tourist maps and brochures on Taiwan’s culture at its booth, the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore attracted an interested crowd at the event. The audience at the booth gamely participated in the pop quizzes which enabled them to become more aware of the importance of recycling as well as Taiwan’s creativity in making fabrics through the use of recycled materials.
The Taipei Representative Office in Singapore also distributed 700 Year of the Monkey paper lanterns at the event. Parents and children were encouraged to bond with each other as they worked together to assemble paper lanterns and compete against others to win Taiwan snacks such as pineapple tarts, nougats and mochi as prizes.
The One Community Fiesta at the Ayer Rajah Community Center is one of 16 community events to be held in various GRCs across Singapore to promote social cohesion and better understanding of different cultures.
