Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang Hosts Memorial Service to Commemorate 94th Anniversary of the Death of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Founding Father of the Republic of China

On 12 March 2019, Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang led a memorial service to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the death of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the Republic of China, at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Wan Qing Yuan).  In a solemn ceremony, Representative Liang led the group of about 30 persons in offering flower wreaths and paying their respects before the statue of Dr. Sun.

In his address, Representative Liang stated that Wan Qing Yuan demonstrates an important historical link between Singapore and the global Chinese population through Dr Sun Yat Sen. The support of Singapore’s early Chinese pioneers like Mr. Teo Eng Hock, Mr. Tan Chor Lam and Mr. Lim Nee Soon, played a significant part in the success of Dr. Sun’s revolution. Dr. Sun’s doctrine on “Sanmin Zhuyi” (“The Three Principles of the People”), which advocates the principles of nationalism, democracy, and welfare,  is a legacy that is as relevant now as it was then for all Chinese people around the world.

Those in attendance  included office bearers of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, the United Chinese Library, and the Singapore Raoping Association; and other officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore.
