Taipei, June 3 (CNA) National Taiwan University (NTU) rose one spot to 20th in the 2021 Asia University Rankings, released Wednesday by Times Higher Education (THE), a U.K.-based publication.
It is the first time NTU has ranked in the top 20 since 2016, according to THE.
The rankings this year included 551 universities from 30 countries and territories. A total of 38 Taiwanese universities appear on the list, with eight in the top 100, both record highs for Taiwan.
The Taiwanese schools in the top 100 are NTU (ranked 20th), Taipei Medical University (30th), National Tsing Hua University (54th), China Medical University, Taiwan (64th), National Yang-Ming University (78th), National Chiao Tung University (90th), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (91st) and National Cheng Kung University (97th).
The universities are evaluated based on five indicators: teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
The top schools on the list this year were Tsinghua University and Peking University, both in China, followed by the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Sixth to 10th on the list were the University of Tokyo, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Seoul National University and Kyoto University.
China's Tsinghua University has topped the THE rankings for three consecutive years.
