SWAZILAND Promotion Investment Authority (SIPA) Chief Executive Officer Phumelele Dlamini says Taiwan has played a huge role in attracting investment to Swaziland.
Dlamini was speaking during the Swaziland Taiwanese Business Seminar at the Royal Swazi.
She said this year there had been several engagements between SIPA and potential Taiwanese investors.
The CEO said one of the fruitful engagements was the seminar hosted by SIPA and the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce based in Gauteng, South Africa.
Dlamini said SIPA was honoured to be part of the Taiwan Africa Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting.
She said the meeting entrenched SIPA’s footprint in the rest of Africa.
“This presented us with an opportunity to promote the country to a wider Taiwanese business community from all over Africa,” she said.
Dlamini said the Taiwanese investment continued to play a significant role, particularly in the textile industry.
She noted that through the Taiwanese investment, jobs have been created which has led to an improvement in the economy of the country.
However, she said it was time that investments were diversified.
“It is our wish to see diversification into other sectors, such as Information Communication Technology (ICT) and other manufacturing ventures, she said.
Furthermore, the CEO said as SIPA they would like to encourage the Taiwanese to invest in agriculture because that would bolster the economy of Swaziland.
She said she believed that Swaziland is the preferred destination of choice, and that the Taiwanese should continue to invest in the country.
