THE Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) will embarked on a campaign to make the festive season meaningful to children who would have otherwise not enjoyed Christmas due to poverty.
TFCF will host a fundraising event on November 28 to help raise awareness and attract potential sponsors to partner with.
During a press briefing at TFCF offices in Mbabane on Friday, TFCF Swaziland branch representative Daniel Tsai said Christmas was a time of celebration and sharing. He noted that a number of children not have the opportunity to experience the fun of Christmas. The reasons vary but the most significant on is the shortage of resources to buy all the goodies that can complement Christmas.
“To make sure that every child enjoy Christmas regardless of their family economic status, TFCF will run a Christmas campaign. The campaign will start by a fundraising event which will be hosted on November 28, at the Swazi Plaza, Tsai said.
The fundraising will be targeted to the potential people and companies who can help create a happy Christmas for the needy children. The representative explained that their primary target for the community Christmas events would be TFCF sponsored children, care givers, directors and the community members of the various communities. TFCF sponsors children in different orphanages such as Emmanuel Khayalethu, Shiselweni Home Based Care, the Refugee Camp in Malindza among others. In all, the organisation sponsors 2 400 children in 27 facilities. Tsai said they were looking at collecting clothes, toys and food
“TFCF being driven by its organisational values started the Christmas campaign last year and is planning to continue hosting the same campaign even this year. Last year the fundraising event was held at Luxy Garden restaurant where it proved to be a success. TFCF will ensure that during this year’s Christmas, every child enjoys themselves to the fullest as they will be entertained and educated through various activities,” Tsai said.
Meanwhile, Delisile Vilakati explained that during the event, they would be selling muffins, lollipops for children, balloon games and face painting. Qhibo and Sandz would also be present to provide entertainment as well as Sidleke entertainment.
