MANTAMBE – The Taiwan Fund for Children and families (TFCF) has lived up to its slogan ‘Where there is a child in need there is TFCF’, as they have constructed a E300 000 NCP and water project for the disadvantaged children of Mantambe
TFCF constructed a Neighbourhood Care Point which is divided into three parts; built in kitchen, store room and dining room, which will also be used as a pre-school class room and a borehole to be used by the needy children and community.

TFCF Director Daniel Tsai said they constructed the NCP and water project for the developing community, so that they could close the gap between the underprivileged children and the rest of the community.
He said they have seven functions and visions for the NCP and the structure already has an in-built stove which would be used for cooking in any weather condition and that would guarantee that the children would have a meal every day.

“The dining area would also be converted into a pre-school. This would help the underprivileged children to have a foundation on their education. The NCP will also have a playing area, which would include a jungle gym. This would create a friendly environment for the children as the facility would not only be visited by the needy children but also the others in the community,” the director said.
He said the facility would also have a backyard garden which would supply the children’s feeding needs. He said the children would also be able to gain some knowledge through the garden, as they believe in the adage, ‘give a man fish and you will feed him for one day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life’.
He said as water falls under the basic needs for one to survive, the water project would help to make the people access water easier, since they would not have to travel long distances in order to have clean water.
He said this would also help to cut the diseases which are caused by drinking unsafe water.
Tsai said for hygiene purposes, the NCP would also have a toilet which would help in promoting a healthy lifestyle which could curb the spread of diseases.
He said they believe that the structure would also be used as a mobile clinic by the community and the Ministry of Health.
