Do not allow China to bully and dictate
The principle that Zheng Rong (Letters, June 28) mentions is China’s principle and ideology, and China should not be allowed to dictate the free operations of international business and bully foreign enterprises into adopting its own principle and ideology.
Beijing’s exerting pressure on airlines on Taiwan’s designation is also executing its authoritarian censorship among international enterprises. Such behaviour represents a worrying trend that the international community should be highly wary of: China’s using its business and economic advantages to threaten the private sector and pursue its political agendas internationally.
The international community, democracies in particular, should recognise this problem and stand firm with Taiwan in countering this behaviour before it is too late. Taiwan is standing at the frontline of a campaign waged between democracies and authoritarian China. If Taiwan falls defeated, democratic institutions and values will be jeopardised.
