On 31 May, the London Philharmonic Orchestra announced the appointment of Taiwanese-American violinist Kevin Lin as their new Co-Leader, filling a position that has been vacant for eight years.
The 24-year-old begins his tenure in August, in time for the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s performance of Enescu’s powerful opera, Oedipe, as part of the ‘Belief and Beyond Belief’ festival at the Southbank Centre.
Following his appointment, Lin told the Violin Channel that he is beyond excited at the prospect of joining the esteemed international ensemble, and said he is very much looking forward to life in the UK.
The avid chamber musician began his violin studies at the age of 6 and is a graduate of the Colburn School Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music. He has won numerous prizes in international competitions, including the 2013 Irving Klein International String Competition, and 1st prize at the 2011 Schmidbauer International Young Artist String Competition, Junior Division.
Lin plays a 1925 Vincenzo Sannino on loan from the Chi-Mei Cultural Foundation, a private museum in Rende District, Tainan, Taiwan.
