On 1 December, the Deputy Mayor of Taoyuan City Mr Ming-Teh Wang and Leader of Royal Borough of Greenwich Council Ms Denise Hyland signed an MOU on smart cities development, marking the first step for a closer partnership between the two local authorities in the field.
The MOU will also lead to further collaboration in the areas of smart mobility, smart transportation, green energy, youth projects, science and innovation. It was signed at the head office of the Royal Borough of Greenwich and was attended by TRO Deputy-Representative Shyang-Yun Cheng and British Office Taipei Representative Catherine Nettleton, who both affirmed that the MOU has strengthened the foundations for UK-Taiwan bilateral cooperation on smart cities.
The signing comes after Councillor Hyland led a delegation from the Royal Borough of Greenwich to Taoyuan in February 2017 during the Smart City Summit & Expo and the UK-Taiwan Smart City Forum held in Taipei. The Royal Borough of Greenwich council has scheduled another visit to Taiwan from 27-30 March 2018, in which it will participate in the 2018 Smart City Summit & Expo and meet with executives at Taoyuan City Government.
