On January 19, Representative Lin was interviewed on BBC television and radio about the M503 air route dispute, where he stressed China should not unilaterally change the cross-Strait status quo and called on Beijing to engage in more constructive dialogue with Taiwan. In the BBC World News’ Impact programme, he told host Karin Giannone that the central issue of the dispute was mainland China’s failure to consult or inform Taiwan prior to launching the new aviation route.
Representative Lin was also interviewed on the BBC World Service’s programme News Hour that day. In addition to reiterating that Beijing’s new air route will affect civil aviation safety, he also told host James Menendez that President Tsai Ing-wen made it very clear Taiwan has and will always pursue cross-Strait peace, stability and prosperity.
