Taiwan’s VP and UK Foreign Office Chief Scientific Adviser launch Innovative Industries Programme

From 20-22 March 2018, UK Foreign Office Chief Scientific Adviser Professor Robin Grimes visited Taiwan and together with Taiwan’s Vice President Chen Chien-jen launched the ‘UK-Taiwan Innovative Industries Programme’ (UKTW I2P). Under the UKTW I2P, the British government will provide approximately £200,000 (NT$8 million) to support Taiwanese researchers seeking to conduct projects at British universities and institutions, helping to increase bilateral cooperation in the areas of IC industry innovation, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, digital economy, green energy, robotics, and outer space. Vice President Chen remarked the programme demonstrates increased bilateral cooperation and is an opportunity for both countries to achieve great success.
During his visit, Professor Grimes visited key Ministries and research facilities in Taiwan, including the National Development Council, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and precision machining companies in Taichung. He also gave a speech about scientific research at Academia Sinica as well as National Cheng Kung University. In addition, Professor Grimes toured Gogoro’s electric scooter production facilities, among other sites.
