On 13 April, Representative Lin hosted the launch ceremony for the National Kaohsiung Centre for the Arts (Weiwuying), expected to open in October 2018. Representative Lin gave opening remarks and expressed hope that the opening of the Centre will contribute to greater cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Britain. Members of the diplomatic corps and UK government officials were in attendance, including the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Taiwan Lord Faulkner of Worcester and the Ambassador of Nicaragua H.E. Ms Guisell Morales-Echaverry.
Weiwuying is Taiwan’s most significant cultural project since the 80s and is the first national theatre to be located in southern Taiwan. The art centre connects professionals, art-lovers and friends from all over the world and collaborates with both local and international organisations to promote cross-cultural diversification. For instance, Weiwuying’s new initiative, ‘Taiwan Dance Platform’, has partnered with Aerowaves Spring Forward to bring the best of Asian choreography to Europe.
