Representative Lin called on the international community to be aware of China’s bullying of airlines to change the designation of Taiwan in his letter published by the Economist on 25 July. Representative Lin stressed that China is using its business and economic clout to coerce international enterprises in order to achieve its political agenda. “It is imposing its political ideology on foreign companies, thereby jeopardising their free operations,” he added. Representative Lin also pointed out that “if airlines do bow to China’s pressure…it would represent another blow not only to Taiwan, but also other democracies.” He concluded by calling on countries around the world to “stand together, reaffirm our commitment to freedom and constrain the expansion of China’s hegemony.”
