The strong backing for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in Interpol by the Co-Chairs of the British-Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stated on 3 November. Such friendship and support from Lord Rogan, Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, and Nigel Evans, member of the House of Commons, promotes Taiwan’s participation in international organisations and bolsters relations with the UK, MOFA added. The Ministry’s statement came a day after Rogan and Evans issued a joint letter urging Taiwan’s participation as an observer in Interpol’s 87th General Assembly from 18-21 in Dubai.
On 1 December, MOFA also thanked the UK for its support of Taiwan’s participation in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). UK support for Taiwan’s participation in international climate change organisations is sincerely appreciated by the government and the people, MOFA stated, adding that Taiwan is committed to working with like-minded countries in addressing this issue and seeking support for the nation’s meaningful engagement in the UNFCCC. The remarks follow statements by Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Mark Field and Minister of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Claire Perry affirming Taiwan’s efforts to advance climate solutions and role in tackling the global challenge.
