Speech information: Missing Fractions: the Chinese Diplomatic Archive in Taiwan and Its Contemporary Meaning

Dr. Lyu-Shun Shen, the representative of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K. will deliver a speech at 4.30pm on Wednesday 2nd October at Lecture Room 1, Minto House (20 Chambers St Edinburgh EH1 1JZ). The lecture will be chaired by Prof Stephen Hillier, Vice Principal International of the University of Edinburgh. This is one of the events at the “Contemporary Taiwanese Art, Culture and Cinema in Scotland”, for which the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a co-sponsor with the University of Edinburgh for a series film screening, workshops, lectures and piano recital till 2014.
In 1948, the government of the Republic of China was forced to evacuate the national treasures of the Palace Museum across to Taiwan, including 60 crates of important diplomatic documents and files, some dating back to the late Ching dynasty. In his talk, Dr. Lyu-shun Shen will focus on the diplomatic archives, including 3000 treaties, 615 maps and 180,000 documents.
