Twincussion to perform free concert at John Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on Feb. 1

WASHINGTON (Jan. 12, 2023) — Taiwanese musical act Twincussion will perform a free concert at Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6:00 p.m. The occasion will mark their first time performing in the United States. Advance online reservations are set to open on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 10:00 a.m. Seating is first come, first served, and there will be also an online streaming on the website during the performance.
The group was formed by Taiwanese twin brothers Jen-Ting and Jen-Yu Chien. With their unique music partnership having begun over 20 years ago at the age of six, the twins present a new face in the field of percussion. Their diverse repertoires range from romantic transcriptions to contemporary music. The duo connects music from East Asia to the West and has commissioned original percussion compositions from Taiwanese folksongs to electronic music.
Twincussion has won multiple international music competitions in Europe and North America. Their first international debut was at the 2014 Southern California International Marimba Competition where they received the Grand Honorable Mention, coming in at second place. In 2016, they travelled to Europe and won first prize in the ensemble category at the International Percussion Competition in Italy. They were awarded first prize in the 2018 Soloist Competition at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and received the Idella Foundation scholarship in Copenhagen.
They were recently selected as the Artist of Center Stage Season 6 presented by the U.S. State Department. They will have a month-long tour in the beginning of 2023 in the United States sharing their music with the U.S. community. Center Stage is a public diplomacy initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs with funding provided by the U.S. Government, administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts in cooperation with the U.S. Regional Arts Organizations.
