CKMB students talent in the WAMSB Championship 2023 with the Theme to Show Taiwan Spirit
The results of the World Association of Marching Show Bands Championship 2023, held in Buckhannon, West Virginia, on July 22, were announced on the evening of that day. After a fierce final competition between 10 bands from different countries worldwide, Taiwan’s Chien Kuo High School Marching Band was awarded “Gold with Honors” and won the 2nd place with the theme of “Home Is Where the Heart Is.” The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. witnessed the exciting moment and delivered official congratulatory messages on behalf of President Ing-wen Tsai, Vice President Ching-te Lai and Ambassador Bi-khim Hsiao.
CKMB has made remarkable achievements in many international competitions over the years with its long history. The band of 70 young students performed three songs including "From the New World" by Czech composer Antonín Leopold Dvorák, as well as "Fix You" by Coldplay and "Hajanga" by Jacob Collier with positive metaphor of life, strung together the theme of "Home Is Where the Heart Is", showing the band’s brilliant performance with a great appreciation. The band’s performance has also set an important milestone for the history of Taiwan’s participation in international marching band competitions.
WAMSB is a long-established international band association with members from all over the world and organizes the WAMSB Championship Competition in summer annually. This year is the competition’s first time in recent years to be held in the United States, and a total of 17 bands representing countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Venezuela and Ghana participated.
