Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) is only authorized to authenticate documents that have been issued within our service areas, covering Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, West Virginia.
Business documents issued by U.S. States and authenticated by the respective Secretary of State should be directly submitted to the corresponding Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) for further authentication. (Please verify the appropriate TECO jurisdiction before submission.) Once authenticated by TECO, these documents are fully valid for use in Taiwan. There is no need to send them to the U.S. Department of State or to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO).
Only U.S. Federal Government or Federal Court Documents need to be authenticated by the U.S. Department of State before being submitted to TECRO. TECRO and TECOs do not accept documents originating from countries other than the United States
Application Method
- If the document was issued by the applicant/business entity, the document should be notarized by a Notary Public and then apply for the Apostille/Authentication from the Office of Secretary of Washington DC, Secretary of the State of Delaware/Maryland/Virginia/West Virginia before submitting application to TECRO. There is no need to send these documents to the U.S. Department of State.
- If the document was issued by the State or a court, the document should apply for the Apostille/Authentication from the Office of Secretary of Washington DC, Secretary of the State of Delaware/Maryland/Virginia/West Virginia before submitting application to TECRO. There is no need to send these documents to the U.S. Department of State.
- If the document was issued from the Federal Government of the United States, the document should apply for the Apostille/Authentication from U.S. State Department before submitting to TECRO.
Requirements
- Fill out the application form.
- Company letter head stating the nature of the document, the names and addresses of organizations or individuals requesting the authentication, the name of a contact person and his or her phone.
- Copies of the applicant’s photo I.D and employee badge.
- Documents submitted through an agent will only be accepted if they are accompanied by a notarized power of attorney, prepared by the applicant, authorizing the agent, as well as a photo I.D. of the person delivering the documents
- To authenticate the Chinese version of the documents, a translated traditional Chinese version must be notarized by our consular jurisdiction service area, and then apply for Apostille/Authentication from the Office of Secretary of Washington DC, Secretary of the State of Delaware/Maryland/Virginia/West Virginia before submitting application to TECRO.
- All documents that have been apostilled/authenticated by the Secretary of State or State Department must be submitted with an additional photocopy of the complete document. Please ensure that the entire document is copied in full, without tearing or removing any sections.
- Authentication fee is $15 per document. Expedited is $22.5 per document. Payments can be made via cash, money order, or cashier’s check only (no personal checks or credit cards or company’s check).
- Services will take 7 business days to process as long as all the requirements are fulfilled. Expedited for 3 business days.
Applications Submitted by Mail:
For returning the documents, it is recommended for you to use prepaid DHL, FedEx, or UPS. Please affix the shipping label to a return-envelope, ensuring it includes the full address and name, and send it along with all required documents (including all forms and payment).
