Spain’s national public broadcaster RTVE aired an interview in Spanish with Ambassador Alexander Yui on May 13 across its flagship news program Telediario and the 24-hour news channel Canal 24 Horas.
Ambassador Yui noted that while there has been public discussion about whether Taiwan could feature in future US–China interactions, US policy toward Taiwan remains consistent, and Taiwan–US relations continue to deepen. In response to ongoing Chinese military activities and grey-zone pressure, Taiwan will continue to strengthen its self-defense capabilities, enhance defense resilience and deterrence, and further deepen cooperation with like-minded democratic partners to build more diversified and resilient supply chains.
Ambassador Yui also highlighted that Taiwan’s “silicon shield” reflects its pivotal role in the global semiconductor supply chain, and underscores the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait for the global economy. Any disruption would have significant implications for global trade, the technology sector, and regional security. Taiwan will continue to expand semiconductor cooperation and investment with partners such as the United States, Europe, and Japan, further strengthening global supply chain resilience and deepening Taiwan’s economic and security links with the international community. The more closely Taiwan is connected with the world, the stronger the foundation for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait becomes.
