On May 13, Ambassador Alexander Yui was invited to join #Vantage on Firstpost, where he shared Taiwan’s perspective on developments in the Taiwan Strait and the recent U.S.-China summit.
Ambassador Yui noted that while Beijing has designated Taiwan as a “red line,” the true risk to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait comes from the People's Republic of China. He pointed out that China is undertaking the largest peacetime military buildup in human history, prompting countries across the region to strengthen their defense readiness in response to growing threats.
Ambassador Yui also emphasized that the United States’ position on Taiwan and maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait remains unchanged, underscoring that Taiwan-U.S. relations extend beyond geopolitics to include robust cooperation in trade and technology.
As a democracy, Taiwan will reject any attempt at coercion, and will continue to safeguard its freedom while contributing to regional peace and stability, the ambassador concluded.
