Ambassador Alexander Yui joined NEWSMAX’s Greta Van Susteren yesterday to discuss the importance of Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities and Taiwan-U.S. cooperation amidst a growing military threat from China, which has been engaged in a massive military buildup.
Ambassador Yui stressed the importance of protecting Taiwan’s vibrant democracy and maintaining the longstanding status quo across the Taiwan Strait. “We want to keep our way of life as is,” he said. “And we will not budge.” He also pointed out the facts and history of the matter: the People’s Republic of China has never ruled Taiwan, making the notion of “reunification” baseless.
The ambassador reiterated that Taiwan’s self-defense buildup is essential for preserving peace and security in the Taiwan Strait, and that the proposed U.S. arms sale is important for further strengthening and modernizing Taiwan’s military capabilities—most importantly, upholding its policy of “peace through strength.”
