On Bloomberg Television’s #ThisWeekend, Ambassador Yui stated that communication between Taiwan and the US remains current and constant, and that the United States has reaffirmed that its policy on Taiwan remains unchanged. He also expressed that US arms sales help strengthen Taiwan’s self defense capabilities, which is conducive to the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait, and in the best interest of both Taiwan and the US.
Ambassador Yui emphasized Taiwan is not the problem, but instead, it is the PRC’s military threat that remains the primary source of regional insecurity. The PRC, he said, continues its unwarranted military buildup, indicating that its ambition extends beyond Taiwan and the region. Ambassador Yui also said that Taiwan will continue to tell its story—that Taiwan and the US are like-minded partners with shared values, and that Taiwan plays a pivotal role in global economic, trade, and technology supply chains. He highlighted that Taiwan and the US enjoy robust economic and trade relationship, and that Taiwan has become the US’s fourth-largest trading partner, while the US is Taiwanese companies’ preferred destination for investments.
Ambassador Yui also stressed that the Republic of China (Taiwan)is sovereign and independent, not subordinate to the People’s Republic of China, since PRC has never ruled or controlled over Taiwan. He reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to continue booting its self-defense capabilities, in order to uphold the status quo, peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and the region.
