On June 26, 2026, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) hosted the 2026 Taiwan Alumni Association (TAA) Event, bringing together alumni of Taiwan-related scholarship and exchange programs, scholars, and friends of Taiwan to share their experiences of studying, conducting research, and living in Taiwan.
Deputy Representative Andrea Yang welcomed all guests on behalf of Ambassador Alexander Tah-ray Yui and expressed appreciation for their continued support of Taiwan-U.S. educational exchanges and people-to-people connections. She highlighted Taiwan’s democratic values, open society, and vibrant cultural diversity, including the rich traditions and heritage of Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples, which together contribute to Taiwan’s unique cultural identity and global appeal.
The event featured inspiring sharing sessions from Taiwan alumni and distinguished guests. Gloria Dent, President of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education, shared how her experiences in Taiwan shaped her perspectives on global education, intercultural understanding, and future collaboration. Dr. Christy Pichichero, Associate Professor and Special Advisor to the President on Internationalization at George Mason University, and Benjamin Sando, Research Fellow at the Global Taiwan Institute, also shared their insights on Taiwan’s culture, society, and international engagement.
Participants also enjoyed “My Taiwan Story” video presentations created by Taiwan alumni, reflecting how their experiences in Taiwan have influenced their academic, professional, and personal journeys. Taiwanese cuisine was also featured at the event, allowing participants to revisit the wonderful memories and connections they built in Taiwan.
The Taiwan Alumni Association continues to serve as an important platform connecting Taiwan with the world, strengthening international exchanges and friendships through alumni networks. In her closing remarks, Deputy Representative Yang encouraged Taiwan alumni and friends to continue sharing their Taiwan stories and introducing Taiwan’s warmth, diversity, and spirit to more people around the world.
She also referred to the song “Love To You Taiwan” by American singer-songwriter Lobo, expressing her heartfelt appreciation for Taiwan and encouraging everyone to continue promoting Taiwan and sharing the meaningful memories gained through their Taiwan journeys.
