Ambassador Alexander Yui was interviewed on TaiwanPlus’s "Zoom In Zoom Out" to discuss the strengthening Taiwan–U.S. partnership, including cooperation on semiconductors and AI, Taiwanese investment in the United States, trusted supply chains, Taiwan's self-defense, and growing PRC threats.
Amb. Yui highlighted strong U.S. support for Taiwan, noting Taiwan’s new office in Phoenix and direct flights between Washington, D.C. and Taipei as demonstrating the continued growth of bilateral cooperation.
He stressed that Taiwan’s top semiconductor and technology manufacturing capabilities were not achieved through stealing, but rather from decades of investment, talent development, and technology transfers. The expansion of Taiwanese investment and manufacturing into the United States are natural progressions that fit both U.S.’s goal of re-industrialization and Taiwan’s need to expand its manufacturing footprint beyond the island.
Amb. Yui also emphasized that Taiwan is a critical U.S. partner in AI and non-red supply chains. Taiwan and the United States can further deepen UAV co-development and co-production while working with like-minded partners to ensure that AI is used for the good of humanity—not as a tool of repression.
Facing the PRC’s growing threats and aggression, Taiwan needs to increase defense procurement, modernize its military capabilities, and enhance interoperability with regional partners, Amb. Yui said. Taiwan is not the aggressor; it seeks peace, stability, and the preservation of the status quo.
