The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. (TECRO), joined by The Embassy Series, will co-sponsor a special Nov. 6 concert at The University Club featuring the highly acclaimed Mendolsohn Piano Trio, which includes Taipei native Ya-Ting Chang. an award-winning pianist who soared to acclaim in her native Taiwan when she won the 1987 Taiwan National Piano Competition.
Ya-Ting Chang graduated from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. She is currently Artist-in-Residence at Messiah College in PA. As pianist for the Mendelssohn Piano Trio, Ya-Ting Chang contributes a virtuoso talent developed from years of solo and chamber music experience. She is reputed for her measureless ability to couple sophistication and grace with an intellectual passion for each piece she performs. The result is a performance of an extraordinary musicality and depth.
We are honored to present Taiwan native Ya-Ting Chang to perform at this noteworthy concert at the University Club. Ya-Ting Chang began studying piano at age six, and she soared to national prominence in her native Taiwan when she won first prize in the 1987 Taiwan National Piano Competition.
She has performed extensively throughout the United States, Germany, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The Washington Post critics described her recent performances in Washington DC for the Embassy Series as "impressive" and "eloquent"
In the concert, Ya-Ting Chang will play with the Peter Sirotin (Violin) and Fiona Thompson (Cello). The program includes Ching-ju Shih (1967- ) Fantasia Taiwan for violin and piano; Piano Trio, Ode to Life - for my motherland, Taiwan (2008) and Maurice Ravel (1875-1937)-Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello in A minor.
