Director General Vincent Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta met with Dr. Bernice King, the youngest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., CEO of The King Center, on October 26, 2018.
DG Liu expressed his gratitude to Dr. King for inviting Atlanta TECO officers to events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the 50th anniversary of the funding of the King Center. DG Liu received the honor of Member of the Martin Luther King Jr. International College of Ministers and Laity (inducted) in to its Board of Sponsors granted by Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel on April 4th; DG Liu and TECO officers attended the MLK 50 Forward: Together We Win with Love for Humanity memorial commemoration service and March for Humanity at the Ebenezer Baptist Church on April 9th; and TECO was invited to join the Beloved Community International EXPO at King Center on August 25th.
DG Liu said that people in Taiwan are fully aware of Dr. MLK, Jr.’s lifelong legacy of human rights and civil rights, and Dr. King’s I have a dream speech is in Taiwan’s high school textbooks. Dr. Bernice King gave strong support for Taiwan’s newly opened National Human Rights Museum.
Barbara Harrison, Director of External Affairs, Strategic Partnerships & Programs of the King Center; Doug Hooker, Executive Director, Atlanta Regional Commission; and Jerry Chang, Deputy Director of the TECO Atlanta office were also at the meeting.
